John Batty

John has more than 15 years experience in asbestos and hazardous materials management along with occupational hygiene and environmental consulting and is the Managing Director of EDP Consultants. John is passionate about the management of asbestos and hazardous building materials and ensuring that the health and safety of workers and the greater community is paramount. During his years in the industry he has worked with asbestos removal contractors, government agencies, facilities managers, construction companies and private home owners on large and small projects. At all times trying to provide pragmatic solutions that will ensure the safety of works and occupants while balancing potential cost pressures.   

As a founding member of the AHCA, John recognised a need to have like minded professions come together to drive best practice in the industry to ensure a consistent, quality approach to managing hazardous materials at all levels.

Leroy Brown

Leroy is an Occupational Hygienist with over 15 years’ experience in the industry and is currently employed as a Senior Occupational Hygienist for Acciona managing the NSW Region. Leroy is a passionate advocate for preserving the health of workers, with experience in mining, tunnelling, civil and construction industries. Leroy accepted the Vice Presidency position to continue the develop of the AHCA and drive change that will help support our members (Asbestos and Hazardous Materials Professionals) in their professional endeavours.

Cassandra Fernandez

Cassandra has close to ten years’ experience within the hazardous materials industry and, as a senior consultant with Greencap, Cassandra has strong practical experience in project management, asbestos and hazardous materials surveys and material risk assessments in a large variety of fields including both friable and non-friable projects. Cassandra is also an approved signatory through the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) Australia under International Standards Organisation (ISO) certification for asbestos fibre counting, volumetric measurement and the identification of asbestos in bulk samples. Effectively undertaking and executing numerous asbestos and hazardous material surveys, inspections and asbestos hygiene experience on various sites throughout Australia including the power and energy sector, government infrastructure, major development projects, the health and school sectors and numerous residential and commercial properties.

Fraser Elder

Fraser is the State Manager at EDP Consultants Pty Ltd and possesses over 20 years’ experience in hazardous materials, occupational hygiene, and environmental management gained both in Australia and the United Kingdom. During Fraser’s 20 years in the industry, he has gained proficiency in many areas of asbestos and hazardous materials which includes surveys, management of asbestos and hazardous materials remediation inclusive of developing removal control plans, site supervision, asbestos fibre and lead dust air monitoring and clearance inspections and reporting. As a subject matter expert and expert witness in asbestos, Fraser has developed a sound understanding of asbestos in its health effects, uses and associated risks.

Kris Thomas

Kris is the Managing Director of EP Risk Management Pty Ltd and a Principal Environmental Scientist with over 20 years of international consulting experience in the areas of contaminated land managementrisk assessment, asbestos in soils remediation, hazardous materials and occupational hygiene. Kris has extensive project management experience with a track record of successful delivery of State Significant Development / Infrastructure projects in NSW. Kris has worked across a wide range of sectors including Defence, oil and gas, civil contracting, landfill, property development as well as local, state and federal government departments.

Richard Wilkinson

Richard is a national leader at Tetra Tech Coffey in the occupational hygiene space, and is a National Association of Testing Authorities, (NATA) Australia Technical Assessor in the field of Chemical Testing, Richard also sits on the NATA Accreditation Advisory Committee for Asbestos and Occupational Hygiene. Richard is a SafeWork NSW licenced asbestos assessor with over 12 year’s professional experience in risk assessment, asbestos and occupational hygiene consulting and analysis, Richard has a deep knowledge of asbestos analysis, surveying and removal. Providing project management, technical leadership, business development, quality assurance and risk-based solutions.

James Low

James is a Project Manager at Pure Contracting with more than 15 years’ experience in the hazardous materials removal sector. Coming from a contracting background, James’s principal skillset relates the estimating and management of hazardous materials removal projects. James has been involved in the removal of hazardous materials from some of NSW’s most recent major construction projects including the Barangaroo Redevelopment, the Northconnex & Westconnex projects and the Sydney Metro project.
